No expenses were spared as this was a gradual process with money spent along the way. Hundreds of man hours and thousands of dollars makes this one of the finest trucks in the country. 1957 Dodge Swept Side Pickup Truck

1957 Dodge Swept Side Pickup Truck
23,760.00 USD
1957 Dodge Swept Side Pickup Truck Russo and Steele Auction Auction: 2002 Scottsdale, AZ Consignment # 1242 Final Bid: $ 23,760.00 Chevrolet introduced its sporty pickup, the Cameo carrier in 1955. In 1957 Ford introduced the Ranchero. The same year Dodge went one better with a Finned anomaly called the sweptside. The idea evolving the pickup truck into a fashionable vehicle is not credited to anyone in the Dodge styling station. The origin of this idea traces back to Joe Berr who was in charge of special equipment sales. Starting with a revised D100 half ton pickup, Berr grafted on "Flight Sweep" quarters from a Dodge two door suburban. A few dealers saw the prototype and loved it. In May 1957 the sweptside was introduced to the public. No exact production figures are available but it is believed that about 500 '57 sweptsides were assembled at the special equipment shops. This particular unit was acquired by its current owner about 16 years ago. It had been modified to the extent that just the sheet metal was left intact. A correct donor truck was found and the unit was completely restored back to stock. Dismantled completely, literally to the last bolt, it was reassembled by Dean Barley to its present condition. Equipped with the 314.6 ci engine, torque flite transmission, and original Chrysler wire wheels, it's an eye opener and consistent winner at shows in the area. 5230 S. 39th Street Phoenix, AZ. 85040 Phone: 602.252.2697 Fax: 602.252.6260 Website: www.RussoandSteele.com
