1907 Cadillac Model K Runabout

1907 Cadillac Model K Runabout
110,000.00 USD
1907 Cadillac Model K Runabout 110,000 LotNumber 1545 Exterior Color BRAUSTER GREEN W/ RED STRIPE Interior Color BLACK Summary 98cid/10hp single-cylinder with a 2-speed transmission. Completely and professionally restored to original specifications. Purchased the car in San Antonio, TX in May 1991 from an advertisement in Hemming Motor News. The car was essentially complete, although well used. The purchase included the car, the original manual, Cadillac Single Cylinder Instruction Book Number 3 and Cadillac 1906-1907- 1908 Price List of Parts Models K-M-S-T. From Cadillac he obtained a copy of the original hand-posted Record of Motors and Equipment of Cars Cadillac Motor Car Company. This car is motor number 22952 being the second line on the page. According to this record, the car was originally shipped to the Northwestern Cadillac Company, Minneapolis MN. He was told that the original owner was Rose Park, the wife of the Postmaster in Sterling, North Dakota. While there is not firm confirmation of the original owner's name, the parts book has hand written on the first page the car's serial number, enign enumber and Horton Motor Company, Fargo, NF. With the car was a metal plate with "Sterling" on it. As stated above the car was essemntially complete when purchase. The engine would turn over but would not run. Sheldon Lowenthal of Chesterland, OH was contacted regarding the car and an agreement regarding the restoration was reached. The car was taken to Sheldon in October of 1991. During the next two years the car was completly disassembled. Parts were repaired or replaced with many parts being fabricated by Sheldon and then refinished to original specificiations. Much of the origianl wood body was salvaged and used in rebuilding the body. The wheels were made by an Amish wheelwright. The body and wheels were painted Brewster green with black fenders, red pinstripes, black seats and interior compartment as specified in the information received from Cadillac. Bill Thompson of White Post Restorations contributed his expertise and knowledge to the project as well. The team assembled to restore the car was surpassed by none. Two years later, October 1993, the car was finished and ready for pick up. The car has been stored in my father's garage for the past 13 years. I can only imagine what an experience it must have been 100 years ago to drive this car on the dirt trails of the day. At a top speed of 20 mph, I am sure the occupants felt like they were flying. the one cylinder engine devleops 10 HP. The car has two forward gears and reverse. The spark and throttle are controlled from levers on the steering column. The car received VMCCA's Golden Award of Excellence at the 1994 Glidden Tour in Kerrville, Texas. The award recognizes the car for its appearance, performance and preservation; and my father for his dedication to motor car history.
