1942 Cadillac Series 42-63 Sedan | 1942 Cadillac Series 42-63 Sedan 23,100.00 USD 1942 Cadillac Series 42-63 Sedan $23,100 Worldwide Group Auctions The Old Car Heaven Museum Auction June 19 - 20, 2009 Website: www.wwgauctions.com Lot # 247 CHASSIS NO: 7381031 346 cid L-head V8 rated at 150 horsepower, three-speed manual synchromesh transmission, coil spring independent front suspension with semi-floating rear axle, four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes; wheelbase: 126" Finished in a stately black, which perhaps is a preconception of the dark war years to come, this 1942 Cadillac Sedan displays excellent chrome and trim and good bodywork. The paint started off as a high quality job which is now showing some swirl marks from polishing but could easily be brought back with an attentive hand glaze. To complement the exterior is an exceptionally restored correct-style tan interior which has been thoughtfully protected by a transparent plastic covering. The dash and instrumentation on this Caddy have been restored to a high degree and present very well, and the odometer reads a believable 9,243 miles. The engine compartment is spectacular in its unmolested condition and could very justifiably be left the way it is to preserve its character. Interestingly, the radiator shroud has been stenciled with some cryptic markings which seem to indicate past military service. Further research on the matter could very well reveal provenance to one of the great generals that helped win the war for the allies and mark this prewar Cadillac as a wonderful piece of American history. by Douglas |

1942 Hudson Commodore Eight Sedan | 1942 Hudson Commodore Eight Sedan 27,500.00 USD Offered For Sale at the: RM Auction - Vintage Motor Cars at Meadow Brook Hall August 6, 2005, Auburn Hills, Michigan RM Auctions One Classic Car Drive Blenheim, Ontario N0P 1A0 Canada Phone: 519-352-4575 Website: www.rmauctions.com 1942 Hudson Commodore Eight Sedan LOT: 040 Chassis No. 249980 Sold at a price of $27,500 128bhp 254.4 cu. in. eight-cylinder engine, two-bbl downdraft Carter carburetor, drive-Master gear shifting system (semi-automatic transmission) with overdrive and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 121" The styling of the 1942 Hudson models was extensively updated compared to the 1941 designs. The lower bodywork was flared out at the bottom to conceal the running boards, and in turn, resulted in a redesigning of the front and rear fenders to provide these last of the prewar Hudson models with a more flowing, graceful look, which was further enhanced by being 1.5 inches lower. A new grille design wrapped itself across the front fenders, while the rear fenders were now skirted. Massive front and rear bumpers and guards added a little to the overall length, which was further emphasized by additional chrome trim consisting of two body-length chrome strips, one at the belt level, and one at the bottom of the doors running into the front and rear fenders. There were also chrome strips running below the bottoms of the doors. Unique to Hudson were the illuminated triangular badges on the sides of the hood. The Commodore Eight also received distinctive fender mounted parking lights and bore full chrome disc hubcaps such as found on this recent California restoration. This low mileage Commodore Eight with 37,000 original miles features classy new silver gray paint, fresh period blue and gray complementing interior andbrilliant sparkling chrome. The powerful 254.4 cubic inch Straight Eight motor was completely rebuilt and fully detailed for show. The Commodore Eight comes fully dressed with rear bumper wing tips, bumper guards, wide whitewall tires and a rev saving overdrive unit. It should also be noted that both the heater and novel Hudson radio is fully operational. A new six-tube radio was offered as optional equipment in 1942 that was very unique. The driver pressed a button on the floor with his foot and it would automatically change to any of the five pre-selected stations. A slight depression of the button would shutoff the volume. Few 1942 Hudsons survive out of the just over 40,000 units built. Hudson was known for its performance and handling, which makes this rare low mileage eightcylinder the perfect automobile for cruising in America. by Douglas |

1942 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible Coupe | 1942 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible Coupe 36,300.00 USD Offered For Sale at the: RM Auction - Vintage Motor Cars at Meadow Brook Hall August 6, 2005, Auburn Hills, Michigan RM Auctions One Classic Car Drive Blenheim, Ontario N0P 1A0 Canada Phone: 519-352-4575 Website: www.rmauctions.com 1942 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible Coupe LOT: 042 Chassis No. 5426611 Sold at a price of $36,300 150hp 346 cu. in. L-head Eight with three main bearings, eight-cylinder engine, four-bbl carburetor, Twin-Turbine Variable Pitch DynaFlow automatic transmission, four-wheel leaf springs and four-wheel drum brakes. Wheelbase: 129" The 1942 40th Anniversary Cadillac models were very dramatically restyled. The Harley Earl 1941 models had been runaway best sellers in their field, yet the improvements were substantial. The grille had more massive bars but fewer of them and housed rectangular fog lamps. The parking lights were now round. The front end styling with its dazzling combination of paint and chrome was complemented by the graceful contours of the hood. The front and rear fenders were extended into the doors, or in the case of the two door models, into the body. Although this had first been seen on the 1941 60 Special, the shape was far more dramatic with its radius flowing forward into the lower surface. The 1942 Series 62 had a more generous trunk, larger seats, additional floor space and an electrically powered convertible top. Chrome bullet shapes appeared on the substantial front and rear bumpers along with heavy moldings along the sides of the body. It also incorporated quarter windows in its design for the very first time. This older restored Cadillac still catches everyone’s attention despite the slight patina it now bears. Its red paint and black convertible top are a stunning combination. Although some minor pitting can be found on its classic egg crate grille, the chrome bumpers and trim are excellent. Inside the contrasting navy blue leather seats and panels show minimal wear, as do the rich-looking dark blue carpets. Because this rare Cadillac was popular as a “wedding” car it has been fitted with a modern sound system that operates from a separate, hidden 12 volt system. If so desired, this can easily be removed, as it in no way compromised this 62’s original six volt electrical system as no modifications were necessary. The vendor reports the engine runs well and requires only fresh detailing, not servicing. For future concours events this rare open Cadillac likely requires only minor cosmetic restoration. A total of 4,961 Series 62 Cadillacs were built before the start of World War II halted production. Cadillac V8 engines, like the one found in the Series 62, would eventually be fitted in the Patton tanks. Very few Series 62 convertibles such as we have offered here today were built. by Douglas |
