Custom Cars
Customizing cars has been a part of the automobile scene almost since the first car was built. Originally, customizing was done by the manufacturers to satisfy the whims and desires of individual customers. With the advent of mass-production, cars were stamped out like so many half-dollar pieces, but the demand for individuallity prevailed and after-market modifications such as trunks, side-mounted spare tires, spotlights, and chrome gadgetry became available. Major metalwork modifications, however, did not become more common until the early 1930's with this more serious form of customizing really taking off in the 1940's.
