Detroit Electric Cars

Anderson Electric Car Company
Detroit, Michigan

The Detroit Electric, built by the Anderson Electric Car Company, became one of America´s best known and longest-lived electric automobile marques. Production in Detroit, Michigan, spanned the period from 1907 to 1938.

Detroit Electrics were quiet and required no hand-cranking, making them a favorite with ladies. Doctors also liked the electric cars because the gradual, gentle power delivered directly to the driving wheels made it easier to move in mud and snow.

In the Detroit Electric, the driver used a tiller to steer: a pull toward the driver turned the automobile to the right, a push away turned the automobile to the left.
