This 1967 Ford Shelby GT500 re-creation has set four land speed records and holds the current land speed record for its class at 148.8mph. This car has completed the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour twice since it was restored. It has appeared in "Hot Rod Magazine" in Sept. 06. It has been on Hot Rod Magazine TV, ESPN2, North Carolina Public Television and SPEED's new program called "Speed Records". The car has amplified three feature elements-- show, go and comfort. The Grabber Blue paint, Shelby treatments and competition stance make this car a winner wherever it goes. The car is aggressive enough to take no prisoners, yet mild enough, with its automatic transmission, air conditioning and stereo, to be driven comfortably on the open road. Even the competition legal roll cage has been modified to provide for easy access. The engine compartment is full to the brim with a 390 GT V8 with aluminum heads, intake, valve covers, Cobra oil pan and enough power estimated (450 hp) to run in the 12's at the drag strip. The engine has the full complement of Shelby features including original valve covers, extra capacity 7-quart oil pan and custom Shelby-style air breather with custom graphics. Things have been beefed up a little with the addition of a remote oil filter, aluminum radiator and aftermarket air conditioning to keep you cool. The C6 automatic transmission with a mild stall converter reins in these ponies to where driving this car is effortless and enjoyable. The car was given the full treatment of Shelby body modifications along with a few extras to separate and distinguish you from the rest. These include shaved door handles, mirrors and antennas. You can't miss the generous application of Grabber Blue paint including the Shelby graphics, which are also painted on. The competition suspension gives this car a stance that stops onlookers and the competition in their tracks. The suspension features front and rear sway bars to help carve corners. The car has the typical Shelby suspension modifications with some modern upgrades. Disc brakes up front help haul this car down from its land speed trials in fine fashion. The functional rear brake scoops give you added confidence as they cool the rear brakes. The interior is black in color. Reccarro leather seats that feature custom embroidery were added to hold you in place when the fun begins while leaving you in comfort for the long haul. Don't let the 8-point roll cage intimidate you. A couple of simple modifications have eliminated the usual entry and exit hassles associated with racecars. The interior also features a period-correct wood rim steering wheel along with custom gauges and tachometer. There is a modern Alpine stereo with CD player if you ever get tired of listening to the sweet sounds the car makes. by Douglas |
