I purchased this car in July 1989 from its second owner, a lawyer from Los Angeles who had moved his practice to Vermont. Since that time, I have put less than 1,000 miles on the car, driving it only in the Summer and keeping it during the Winter in my climate-controlled shop. The car was unbelievably original when I got it. When we replaced the frayed carpets, for instance. The remnant of the tar paper originally placed at the factory under the carpets on the floors was still there. The original seats were in excellent condition and the car even had its original top with a rear window you can see out of to this day. Between the first and second owner, the car was vended by an LA dealer who decided to give the car a quick paint job to hide a finish faded by the California sun. This meant the old habit of painting lacquer over the original enamel. By the time I got the car, this was crazed and required a bare metal re-spray. This was done with the highest quality Glasurit paint and properly carried out, including removal of fenders, doors, hood, trunk and interior. To our amazement, the car was so corrosion free that all of the fenders unbolted and were bolted up again using the original hardware. In fact, I have never seen a combination aluminum and steel car in this condition. This car has excellent history with all of the necessary maintenance carried out religiously. In addition to its paint, it also has new tires and American Dunlop gray steel wheels as per original, carpets, re-built dampers, master cylinder, exhaust, brakes, a new clutch and throw-out bearing. The car is, in other words, a perfect driver easily made into a perfect 100-point car if desired. I am a restorer of fine paintings and believe that less is more. I do not own 100-point cars made out of boxes of new bits. To show its original condition, for instance, the car has not been over-detailed under the hood. The engine has excellent compression and uses no oil. It has its original steering wheel and everything works except for the radio not being hooked up. Even the overdrive functions perfectly. This car has been seen by the President of the New England Healey Club who commented on what an extraordinary example it was. There is absolutely nothing to hide except for a 3/4" tear in the original top that has been glued and is not obvious. Whoever becomes the lucky owner of this car will not regret for a minute having purchased it.
