This car has received a wide international reputation for being the "Best of Breed" for the highly modified classic Corvette. Read the cover story in the March 2000 issue of "'Vette Magazine: Prescription for Fun"; also "Born Again Corvettes Part 3: The Newman Conversion 4/2/2001" SPEEDVISION.com. This letter from Joe Calcagno C-1 Corvette Specialist from Soquel, California describes this car best: "I am a licensed Automobile dealer in California #27759. I have been buying, selling, repairing and restoring these cars (1956-1962 Corvettes) since 1957. I am a member of the National Corvette Restorers Society and I judge these early Corvettes each year in National competition. I have written over 40 published articles on the subject, and I regularly conduct seminars on restoration techniques and problem solving relating to these cars. It is a pleasure to have been associated with Dr. Barry A. Long in the acquisition and restoration of his 1958 Chevrolet Corvette VIN J58S103023. This beautiful car has undergone a painstaking restoration and modification over the last two years by several of the World's premier automobile specialists. Starting with an outstanding example of a genuine 1958 Chevrolet Corvette with a damage free California history and with the combined talents of several of the country's most capable specialists, this car has become a one-of-a-kind car, a '58-'96 Corvette. Using only genuine Chevrolet Corvette parts throughout, Dr. Long has guided the process to achieve his personal vision of a World Class Sport Touring Car. With an LT-4 Corvette 5.7 Liter engine and a "ZF" 6-speed transmission, complete with all the factory engineering details for continued serviceability, and a '96 Corvette steering and suspension system, this car is a blend of the best of both the old and the new. This kind of product can only be perfected by highly capable and talented people. Paul Newman of Car Creations in Templeton California did the modifications to the original Corvette chassis to accept the new suspension system. Alf Eberoth of Performance Engineering in Sand City, Ca did the installation of the engine, transmission, and all the related components, including the 6" widening of the rear of the body for the wider ZR-1 wheels and tires. Randy Reed of Antique Auto Restoration of Monterey, CA, did the exterior finishes, and Sid Shaver of Sid's Upholstery in Santa Clara did the genuine leather interior and canvas convertible top. Automobile enthusiasts all across the country know these people through their work, and with the completion of this project a new high water mark has been achieved.
