Description: 1954 CHEVROLET CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE
Strap in to the way-back machine, we're going to 1954! Before you is one of the finest unrestored original Corvettes you will ever see. Purchased new on 4/30/54 at Village Chevrolet in Wilmet, Illinois, this car remained in the ownership of the original purchasing family for 51 years. For many of those 51 years, their beloved Pennant Blue car was stored in their finished basement. Talk about good looking home furnishings! Upon the original owner's passing, he willed the car to his daughter, who eventually sold it in 2005. A very early production car, it is #822. As such, it features many items once thought to be unique to the 1953 model year. Better still, in the first year you could get a Corvette in "colors", #822 is one of just 300 documented Pennant Blue examples produced. #822 is a 30,000 mile original car that has had no restoration work at all. It is finished in its original factory applied paint, still wears its original factory installed convertible top that even has the original dated window, and is completely untouched throughout. The original spare has never left the trunk, and the original side curtains appear to have never been used. The full history of the car and an incredible amount of paperwork from 1954 to present further documents this incredible time capsule. In 2006, #822 ventured to Bloomington Gold to be judged for the prestigious "Survivor" certification. It passed with flying colors and literally blew the judges away. To the casual observer, this car looks like an old beater. To the astute collector, one looks at this car and realizes that this is the "way they were"- terrible paint, shoddy fiberglass and all. It has a magnificent patina and literally looks like it was locked in a bubble for many years. Upon the original owner's sale, #822 went through a dealer who sold it to its second owner, who happens to be a Chevrolet dealer. He had his service department go through #822 and make sure it was tuned to perfection and road ready, but without doing any sort of cleaning, restoration, or the like. As such, #822 runs and drives like a brand new car. It starts on the button and is an incredibly reliable and rewarding car to drive. In fact, the second owner liked it so much that he routinely used #822 to commute over 200 miles round trip to one of his dealerships! This is a fantastic example of an original, unrestored "Survivor" Corvette. It would be equally well suited as the centerpiece of a great collection as it would being used as intended- to drive! Imagine using this beauty for any number of Corvette club or vintage road rallies. I would not hesitate to drop the original top and put 1000 miles down in such an event in #822, and without fear of stone chips like in a restored car! In a sea of restored Corvettes with highly questionable provenance, #822 stands out as a true find. A real deal, fully documented, two owner from new, 30K mile, unrestored, turn key '54 in the best and most sought after color. If you appreciate originality and a car you can actually use like I do, take a good look at old #822. One hell of a car.
