Bentley became the “Come-back Kid” in 1982 with its introduction of the Mulsanne Turbo. It was an improvement over the previous Mulsanne which was little more than a Bentley grilled Rolls-Royce Silver spirit. They added 80 additional horsepowers, and improved the suspension, wheels and tires to keep up with the new power. This turbo was welcomed with open arms into the luxury vehicle community and ripped open the market for future high performance luxury sedans.
Subsequently, the eight was introduced to the European market in 1984 and to the US market in 1986. With similar attributes as the Turbo, the Eight cost around 0,000 and trademarked with a mesh grille mimicking the popular Bentleys of the twenties and thirties. Over the years it grew in popularity, style and bells and whistles. It gained anti-lock brakes, alloy wheels, air bags and eventually Bosch MK-Matronic electronic fuel injection.
Grace and comfort were incorporated into the mix with the introduction of fully independent suspension, rigid steel unit body with aluminum opening panels, and automatic ride height adjustment in the rear. The mechanics were matched with the classic interior styling that RR/Bentley's are known for. It was given a Connolly leather interior, Wilton wool carpets, a dash that sported a gauge layout similar to the Bentley’s of the thirties and book matched veneer trim.
Our 1988 Bentley is finished in white with a tan leather interior. Completed with a sunroof and less than 100,000 miles, what more could you ask for? Her last maintenance was in 2003 during which she received a complete overhaul of her braking system. A great driver and beautiful car indeed. The paint shows some “crazing”. There is a tear in the leather a the vertical base of the driver’s seat. This car is fairly priced and represents a bargain to a discerning buyer.
