1993 PORSCHE 968 COUPE 6 SPEED
Porsche fans, are you tired of Guards Red, black or basic silver? Boy, have we got the cure for you! A GORGEOUS Himberot Red Metallic 968 that's close to perfect in every way! Haven't seen the color before? No surprise there. It was spec'd out through Porsche's Exclusive Program, where any Porsche can be any color you'd like! Black is the chosen interior which makes for an awesome combo! 29,800 miles is all that's showing on the clock so this is an AWESOME car in fantastic condition! By 1992, Porsche's entry level car, the 944, had grown long in the tooth. A brilliant performer, the car's credentials weren't lacking, but the flip-up headlights and squared off features harkening back to the 924 of the 70's looked out of place compared to newer, sleeker sports coupes like Nissan's 300ZX or Mazda's RX7. Compounding problems, the early 90's was a terrible time to sell sports cars, as we had invaded Iraq and the economy stagnated. On top of that, rumors swirled above Stuttgart on a daily basis about Porsche's financial woes. A new model was out of the question, but Porsche did what they do best: reinvent what they already had. Freshly sculpted fenders with 928-style headlights, a softer, more modern profile, new wheels, a new tail panel with cues again harkening to the 928, and the 944 S2's power plant as standard, the 968 was born. Never mind that the structure of the car, from the floor pans to the doors to the hatch to the roof, were the same pieces worn by its 924 grandfather. This was the final, best front-engine car from Porsche. This 968 looks awesome from any angle. 16" 968 Cup wheels wrapped in 225/50 front and 245/50ZR16 Yokohama AVS ES100 tires anchor all four corners. Porsche channeled 928 DNA into these cars, resulting in a more upscale, GT-look. The panels are smooth and glossy with no dings or dents, and there's a clear adhesive mask on the front end and mirrors. There is no paint work evident on the car, other than the custom, color matched rear spoiler (it looks a TON more integrated than the stock black!) everything is how Porsche intended. This car will turn heads amongst even Porschephiles and the general public thanks to the awesome color! The 3.0 liter, Variocam-assisted four cylinder motor makes a mountainous 240 horsepower, more power than even the 944 Turbo S models! The variable valve timing makes usable torque well down in the RPM range, as well, making this a very drivable car everywhere from the 12 Hours of Sebring to your one hour of rush hour commuting. Modern Bosch engine management hardware allows for the great power while still pulling high 20MPG figures on the freeway. This is a have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too vehicle! The clutch and transmission work perfectly just as a sports car should be! Here are the options laid out in the maintenance book (we have the entire owner's manual packet.) C02 Catalytic converter, XD4 Porsche crest center caps, 139 Seat heater left, 220 Locking differential, 331 AM/FM cassette with two door speakers (premium). 340 Seat heater right, 454 Cruise Control, 650 Sunroof, 09991 Exclusive Program (Himberot Red Metallic). We have a pile of receipts, too, showing a full power steering rebuild (a weak point on the 944/968,) new seals and gaskets, a new Optima battery and oil changes and a new rear wiper. There are more, as well, and a spotless Carfax. Inside, the car is a pure pleasure to drive. There are supple black seats, four way power with heat for both driver and passenger. The interior is as clean as the day it was made, right down to the never-used cigar lighter. All power accessories work as designed and the A/C blows cold. These cars are brilliant, and in many ways out handle, out brake and outperform persnickety 911's. Few cars offer the combination of cross-country comfort and ease of performance that 968's did. Own one and you'll see that Porsche's final four cylinder car is far and away their best!
