1961 Lincoln Presidential Limousine - Kennedy Assassination Car
This is the infamous 61 Lincoln Continental Convertible presidential limousine in which President John F. Kennedy was riding in Dallas on November 22, 1963. It is part of a powerful image burned into the memory of many Americans. Even if you are too young to remember when Kennedy was assassinated, you have probably seen pictures of this car when it was a blue convertible in the bright Dallas sun.
That event totally reversed the trend towards visibility that had guided presidential car designers since World War II.
In 1964 the car underwent a major reconstruction including a new engine, titanium armoring, five-layer multiplate bullet-proof glass, new communications system, a complete retrimming of the rear compartment, and a permanent "greenhouse" top.
This Presidential Limousine has been used by five American presidents - John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard M. Nixon, Gerald R. Ford, and Jimmy E. Carter. The custom coachwork on the original car was done by Hess and Eisenhardt Company.
