The Colin Chapman prepared Lotus cars made a tremendous impact during the transition years from the front-engined racers to the rear-engined design. Scotsman Jim Clark drove this car in his rookie year at Indianapolis starting 5th and finishing 2nd. Clark led laps 68-95, but winner Parnelli Jones led the remaining 105 laps. Clark was named "Rookie of the Year" for his performance and won the race two years later.
