A.J. Foyt, Jr. Captured an unprecedented fourth Indianapolis 500 victory in the No. 14 Gilmore Racing Team car in 1977. It was Foyt's 20th Indianapolis start after achieving wins here in 1961, 1964, and 1967. Foyt led 46 laps of the race including the final 16 laps. Johncock had the lead with Foyt in 2nd place after both had made final pit stops, and the stage was set for a race to the finish when Johncock went out with a broken crankshaft on lap 185. This same car had been successful for Foyt at Indianapolis in previous years as A.J. started on the pole and finished 3rd in 1975, and started 5th and finished 2nd in 1976 driving this No. 14 Gilmore sponsored car.
