Johnnie Parsons, the 1949 AAA National Champion, drove this No. 1 car to victory in the rain-shortened 1950 Indianapolis 500. After the discovery of a small crack in the block of the car's engine, Parson's crew decided he should run as fast as possible for as long as the engine would hold together in order to collect lap prize money. When the race was halted due to rain after 345 miles, Parsons had better than a lap lead over his nearest competitor, Bill Holland. Parsons led 115 of the 138 laps.
