1962 Lincoln Presidential Limousine | 1962 Lincoln Presidential Limousine 1962 Lincoln Presidential Limousine This 1962 Lincoln Continental Limousine was equipped with a "bubble top" that allowed the occupants to be seen while keeping them safe from bodily harm and protecting them from bad weather. Delivered new to the White House, it was used by President and Mrs. Kennedy and numerous other dignitaries and heads of state including Pope Paul IV, President Lyndon B. Johnson, and Ferdinand Marcos, the President of the Philippines. This car was the second Lincoln acquired by the White House during the Kennedy administration. Engineered and built by Hess & Eisenhardt, it was equipped with flag mounts on the front fenders, dual air conditioning systems, a radiotelephone for rear seat passengers, and specially directed interior lights that enabled the car's occupants to be seen at night. The Lincoln has traveled fewer than 16,000 miles since new and remains in entirely original condition. This car is part of the John O'Quinn Car Collection. Photos by Douglas Wilkinson. 1953 Rolls-Royce Phantom IV Limousine | 1953 Rolls-Royce Phantom IV Limousine 1953 Rolls-Royce Phantom IV Limousine Coachwork by Hooper Used bt His Highness Abdul Illah, Prince Regent of Iraq One of the rarest Rolls-Royce motorcars ever built - and the only model to be factory equipped with a straight-eight engine - the Phantom IV was available exclusively to royalty and heads-of-state. Only seventeen were delivered to customers when they were new. This car carries the only example of this style of Hooper coachwork fitted to a Phantom IV. It was built to the order of His Highness Abdul Illah, the Prince Regent of Itaq for the coronation of his nephew, the King. Unfortunately, the Prince was assassinated in 1959 in the revolution that eventually brought Saddam Hussein to power. At the time of the uprising, the car was at Hooper's in London for servicing and was saved as a result. The Phantom IV is so highly refarded that, of the seventeen cars delivered new to customers, eight are still owned by their original purchasers or their heirs. 1959 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith All-weather Cabriolet | 1959 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith All-weather Cabriolet 1959 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith All-weather Cabriolet Coachwork by Hooper Used by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip and Prince Charles and Princess Diana of England This cabriolet is one of a pair ordered by the Australian Federal Government for a scheduled visit by King George VI and Princess Elizabeth during the late 1940s. While illness prevented the King from traveling, Queen Elixabeth used them during her two-month Australian tour after his death. They were also used for visits by the Queen Mother, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, numerous other heads of state, and the Pope. Intended for long-distance travel on dusty roads, the majestic cars were fitted with special air cleaners and extra lage capacity fuel tanks. In 1994, both cabriolets and four other Rolls-Royce motorcars were sold out of the government motor pool at a sale of Australian State vehicles when it was determined that they were used so infrequently that the costly regular maintainance required could not be justified. 1996 ROLLS ROYCE SPUR III PRINCESS DIANA | 1996 ROLLS ROYCE SPUR III PRINCESS DIANA 250,000.00 USD 1996 ROLLS ROYCE SPUR III PRINCESS DIANA $250,000 Mileage: 19000 Engine Size: 6.8 LITER V-8 Transmission: AUTOMATIC Exterior Color: BLACK Interior Color: TAN Vin: SCAZN11C5TCX57140 June, 1996, Princess Diana exits a British Airways jet for what would be her last trip to the United States. Princess Diana’s visit to Chicago raised $1.4 million and was split up between 3 women’s cancer charities; Northwestern’s Robert H. Lurie Cancer Center, Gilda’s Club and London’s Royal Marsden Hospital. As per request of the British Consulate, a Rolls Royce Motorcar was needed for the conveyance of Her Royal Highness. This 1996 Spur III was ordered new, specially for the Princess. She was picked up on the airport tarmac in this Rolls Royce and traveled throughout Chicago for 3 days, interacting with the people proving why she is the “queen of people’s hearts”. At her final destination, the steps Diana took from this Rolls Royce to her return flight home were the last steps she will ever take on US soil. Since the use by H.R.H. the car was purchased by a woman who appreciated its connection with the princess. The car was seldom driven and has only 19k actual miles. The museum acquired the Rolls for display and to help effort’s started by the princess many years prior. The museum along with the premier unveiling of the Rolls helped raise money for the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization. The unveiling was also a reunion; in attendance was Vernon Smith, the man who purchased this car new for Diana’s use, photographer Stuart Rodgers who had covered Diana’s visit and Daniel McAleer, Diana’s designated chauffeur. During this reunion a collection of personal photographs, un-published by the media, were brought forward by the attendee’s. Many of the photos were of Diana and this Rolls. The car has been featured twice in “The Flying Lady”; a magazine dedicated to Rolls Royce and Bentley Motorcars plus mentioned in People Magazine. In memory of the Princess, a portion of the sale of this car will be donated to the 3 charities that the Princess and this Rolls helped raise money for during her last visit to Chicago. Included with the sale will be the Diana Spur III, the acquired photo collection as well as many other pieces of memorabilia.
