In the early Fifties Alfa Romeo was recognized as one of the world's top race car builders with the successful Alfetta Formula One car. The famous Alfetta name was brought back into use in 1972 with Alfa Romeo's new Alfetta coupe and sedan. The car was powered by a 1779 cc, 122 hp engine capable of top speeds of 112 mph. The Alfetta also had a transaxle and disc brakes that were fitted inboard next to the differential.
