The Metropolitan was created by George Mason for Nash in the early 1950s and it was sold under the Nash and Hudson names until the companies were folded into American Motors in 1958. The cars were built in the UK by Auston Motors who fitted the Metropolitan with the same engine used in the MG at that time. All of the cars were built for import into the United States.

The Met hit its peak in 1959 with 22,309 imported. The car was in production from 1954 to 1960 and some were sold as late as 1962.

This Royal Runabout model was built as a sales promotion car and features special paint and interior.
