1967 Amphicar

1967 Amphicar

Offered For Sale at the: Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction January, 2008, Scottsdale, Arizona Barrett-Jackson Auction Company 7400 E Monte Cristo Ave Scottsdale, AZ 85260 Phone: 480-421-6694 Facsimile: 480-421-6697 Website: www.barrett-jackson.com 1967 Amphicar 50,000 LotNumber 367 Cylinders 4 Engine 1100 Transmission I purchased this Amphicar in Greybull, Wyoming, in 1975 from a dealer who had three cars left when they quit manufacturing them. Two cars had been sold earlier. I got the last one, a blue 1967 model. It had been in a small garage since new. I put it in my garage until 1981 when divorce forced me to rent storage until 1990, when I built a special storage unit for it. When I got the car, it had 200 miles on it. At present, it has 510 original miles on the odometer. I have had it in a lake two times. Once there were 3' whitecaps and a strong wind. It handled very well. It cut through the waves like a boat, staying on an even keel. These cars were Coast Guard approved seaworthy to operate on the ocean. My car is blue with a light cream vinyl top. The interior doors and seats are yellow and white vinyl. The tires at this time are the original German made and have very minor weather checks and very wide off-white sidewalls. I have touched up some small paint chips.

1964 Amphicar 770 Convertible

1964 Amphicar 770 Convertible
60,000.00 USD
Offered For Sale at the: Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction January, 2008, Scottsdale, Arizona Barrett-Jackson Auction Company 7400 E Monte Cristo Ave Scottsdale, AZ 85260 Phone: 480-421-6694 Facsimile: 480-421-6697 Website: www.barrett-jackson.com 1964 Amphicar 770 Convertible 60,000 LotNumber 714 This example of Hans Tripple's Amphicar may be the finest restoration in North America. It began as a relatively low mileage, rust-free example and was stripped to bare metal. Rust inhibiting primer was applied and then painted in the original factory white. All operating components were refreshed or replaced where necessary. A complete engine rebuild, transmission rebuild and reworking of all mechanical components including brake lines, wheel and master cylinders were employed. All replacements were either NOS components from the restorer's private stock or remanufactured for the Amphicar. The interior was redone with marine-grade vinyl in the most authentic color and stitch match in the world. The only upgrade to this accurate and correct restoration is the use of an alternator. This Amphicar is known to those who laboriously worked on her for nearly two years as "Pond Lilly". She completed her shakedown cruise this Fall and her hull remained dry as a bone. The original bilge blower and bilge pump have been refreshed. Both bow and stern marine lights have been replaced with new lenses and bulbs. The Amphicar has been refitted with the period-correct Coker tires, which act as the rudder when she is afloat. Pond Lilly cruises comfortably at 65mph on land and 7 knots in the water. This original example includes the complete propeller housing tunnels, which are rare to find without damage. The tunnels extend below the hull for added stability. The hull has been painted with marine-grade paint to inhibit rust and minimize friction in the water. This example, restored by Roger Sallee, will put a smile on the owner's face for years to come. Of the 3,800 originally built, it is estimated that less than 650 remain today. This is a rare opportunity to truly own the best.

Amphicar set out to market and produce the world’s first amphibious passenger car; sales figures were projected to be 20,000 units, but despite it’s clever combination of automobile and pleasure boat technology the car was deemed to be a dismal failure, only 800 cars were ever built, production ending in 1968. This is your chance to own an original Amphicar. Beautiful in Blue and water tested.
