Aston Martin DB5 1964-1965

The Aston Martin DB5 was introduced in 1964. For most generations, it is the most famous of the Aston Martins due to its starring role in the James Bond movie, Goldfinger.

The DB5 was an evolution of the DB4’s long wheelbase bodyshell and the DB4GT’s faired nose. The engine was still the straight-six but had its displacement had been increased to 3995cc that now produced 282-bhp. The Vantage-engined cars produced 314-bhp. This extra power was needed because of the increased weight of the car.

Other refinements in the DB5 included a new ZF 5-speed gearbox, adjustable Selectride-type Armstrong Dampers, and electric windows.

The DB5 was offered in both saloon and convertible body styles.

Coachbuilder Harold Radford took 12 DB5 chassis’ and built the Aston Martin Shooting Brake.

The DB5 was in production from 1964 through 1965. A total of 1021 cars were built.
