Vintage Antique Bentley Automobiles

Introduced in 1922 the 3 Litre Bentley was quickly developed through active campaigning at the instigation of its designer, Watler O. Bentley. Their successes in the Tourist Trophy and later at Le Mans were legendary. By 1926, the 3 Litre was losing its competitive edge, and the Bentley enthtusiast was looking for an improved big four-cylinder car. Bentley answered the call with a new model with a 4.5 litre engine. It matched the success of its forebear with over 650 being built.

In 1933, the first of the Rolls-Royce/Bentleys was produced in the Derby facility. The newly designed car was marketed as "the Silent Sports Car" due to its considerable refinement. The 3.5 litre vehicle soon gained a reputation for its speed and handling as wells as for the elegant, hand-built coachwork. Cars were made in saloon, drophead coupè and touring body styles. Its seperate chassis, complete with a centralized lubrication system, employed leaf-spring suspension and hydraulic shock absorbers in front and rear. The brakes were power assisted by Rolls-Royce's gearbox-driven mechanical servo. Adjustable shock absorbers were introduced in 1935.

Production of the 3.5 Litre Bentley ended in 1936 with a total of 1,177 having been made.
