The ex-Rick Wilson, Stavola Brothers #8, with all net proceeds benefitting the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance Foundation 1991 Buick Regal Winston Cup Race Car. 358 cu. in overhead valve V8 NASCAR engine with racing transmission, suspension, tires, ignition and safety features.

Racing driver Rick Wilson's career started in the early 1980s and he is perhaps best remembered for a second-place photo finish behind Bill Elliott at Daytona in 1988. Wilson, who at the time was driving for Morgan-McClure, went on to score two Busch series victories and was the first driver hired by Petty Enterprises after The King's retirement in 1992. The Florida-native left NASCAR in 1997 after five top-five and 23 top-10 finishes in over 200 races. The car presented here was driven by Wilson in the 1991 Winston Cup, in what would be Buick's final season in NASCAR competition. The Stavola Brothers, who had owned and operated both Winston Cup and Busch Series teams since the early 1980s and won the Daytona 500 in 1988 with Bobby Allison, consequently switched over to Ford Thunderbirds the following year. Buick's Regal, however, had proven to be a very formidable competitor in its decade-long foray into stock car competition. Upon its introduction, the Regal immediately had an edge over its competitors, thanks to its slick, aerodynamic shape a design that helped Buick secure the 1981 Winston Cup with Darrell Waltrip, despite being forced by GM to use the standard Chevrolet small-block powerplant. This particular car's best finish came at Atlanta in 1991, where Rick Wilson finished twelfth, beating Hut Stricklin in the Bobby Allison-owned Raybestos car. It is decaled and painted in its proper 1991 Snickers livery and is equipped with a 358 cubic inch V8 race motor as well as racing tires, suspension, transmission, ignition and other racing-specific safety items. Following its Winston Cup career and total winnings of nearly $240,000, the car was apparently used for show appearances, including a long period on display within the GM Heritage Center. In fact, many models have been made of the car by such companies as Hot Wheels and Monogram. Historic NASCAR racing has proven to be one of the most popular and fastest growing sectors of the North American vintage racing scene. A full schedule is promoted and sanctioned by HSR (Historic Sportscar Racing) on both the east and west coasts and this Winston Cup car would certainly be a welcome participant.
