One of the most dramatic designs in automotive history has to be the Cadillacs of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Exaggerated grilles, prominent bumpers, pointed taillights, and those trademark fins hit their highest points during this era. It wasn't just in the looks department that these cars were big. They also sported large displacement V8 engines that were among the most powerful in the industry. Available to the customer who wanted a little more prestige, came the Fleetwood 60 Special, offered only in the daring new pillarless hardtop sedan body style. This example offered from the Old Car Heaven Museum has been in storage for a number of years, but appears to have a rather solid body with all the luxury appointments one would expect in a top-line automobile. In addition to power steering and brakes, this car is fitted with power seats, windows, and radio antenna; it also has the Sentinel headlight control plus the very desirable air conditioning system. Finished in its original color of white with matching vinyl roof, this Fleetwood exemplifies the status of a person of importance and one who others knew when he arrived in his Cadillac.
