1933 Chevrolet Master Series CA Phaeton National Automobile Museum in Reno, Nevada |
Although America was in the depths of The Great Depression, Henry Ford introduced his newest creation, the Ford V-8 in 1932. The new Fords were so well-received that Chevrolet simply could not compete. Faced with decreasing sales, Chevrolet completely redesigned its automobiles for 1933 and introduced the Master Series CA. The result was phenomenal. In 1933 Chevrolet production figures topped 600,000 vehicles, nearly double the 1932 results.
While Chevrolet still maintained its 6-cylinder engine, styling changes for the 1933 Chevrolet Master Series CA included a "V" shaped radiator grille, skirted fenders and a hood wuth three ports on each side. Mechanical changes included a new vacuum spark control and a starter that was operated by the accelerator pedal. The carburetor, intake manifold and exhaust manifold were improved which nearly doubled the gasoline mileage. New accessories included a defroster, a radio, and bumper guards.
