Corvette styling for 1955 remained basically the same as it had been since the car's introduction in 1953. The big change was under the hood. The Corvette was now available with Chevrolet's new small-block V-8 engine.
An enlarged "V" within the word "CheVrolet" on the front fenders is one immediate way to identify a 55 Corvette equipped with the new 265-cid powerplant. Outfitted with Chevy's "power pack" (Carter 4-barrel carburetor, special camshaft and dual exhaust) the engine produced 195 horsepower which was an increase of 40 horsepower over the Blue Flame six. This increase in power dropped quarter-mile times by 1.5 secondes and bumped top speed to 119 miles per hour from the previous 107 miles per hour.
Engine: V-8, 265-cid, 195-hp
Transmission: Powerglide, 2-speed automatic
Weight: 2870 lbs
Factory Base Price: $2,909
Total Production: 700
