1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Fuel-Injected Convertible

1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Fuel-Injected Convertible
93,500.00 USD
1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Fuel-Injected Convertible RM Auctions Automobiles of Amelia Island Collector Car Auction Amelia Island, Florida March 13, 2009 AUCTION RESULTS: Lot 141 - Sold at a price of $93,500 250 bhp, 283 cu. in. overhead valve V8 engine, automatic transmission, coil spring independent front suspension, live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 115" Nothing is as iconic of post-World War II Americana as the 1957 Chevy. After great success with the "Hot One" models for 1955 and ’57, Chevrolet lowered their car and gave it baby Cadillac cues. Although in a photo finish with Ford for the sales sweepstakes when new, it is the Chevy that has proved the favorite of the collector community. This is not for looks alone. After wowing the world with the excellent small block overhead valve V8 in 1955 and improving it some more for 56, Chevy pulled out all the stops in 1957. The 265 cubic inch V8 was bored out to 283 cubic inches and offered with Rochester fuel injection, a first for a low-priced car. Perhaps surprisingly, it was available not only on the Corvette sports car but also in any passenger car. Two versions were offered, one with 9.5 to 1 compression, good for 250 bhp, and a 10.5 to 1 edition that achieved the Holy Grail of one horsepower per cubic inch. Also in the mix were two levels of dual-quad carburetion, more mundane V8s and thrifty sixes at the bottom of the line: something for everyone. This fuel-injected Bel Air convertible is a very well-restored example. Attractive in Tropical Turquoise, with matching interior and carpets, it is fully optioned with automatic transmission, power steering and brakes, power windows, dual rear-mounted antennas, Autronic Eye automatic headlight dimmer, AM radio and tissue dispenser. Panel fit and door gaps are good all around, and the car is also equipped with fender skirts. The chrome is all excellent, the engine bay is fully detailed, and the undercarriage looks as if it recently emerged from the factory. The odometer currently reads 183 miles, presumably the distance since restoration. Fuel-injected Chevys are the most sought after 1957 models. The most popular body style of the most popular Chevrolet with the much coveted fuel-injection option, this car is for the person who simply must have it all.

Zora Arkus-Duntov, engineer-designer of the car, presented it to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum on May 29, 1967, during the Drivers' Meeting prior to the 51st annual "500" Mile Race, which was paced by a Chevrolet Camaro.
