Chevrolet completely redesigned the Corvette for 1968. The entire car looked new and there was no mistaking a 68 for its predecessor.
The fastback was replaced by a tunneled-roof coupe. The back window was removable and the top featured a removable two-piece section (T-Top). The car's front end appeared much more aerodynamic and the hidden headlights were now controled by a vacuum rather than electrically. The windshield wipers disappeared when not in use. The side were virtually devoid of chrome. Door handles were replaced by push buttons.
Buyers had a choice of ten exterior colors and six different V-8 engines ranging from a base 300 hp 327 cid to a 560 hp special performance 427 cid.
