Silver 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
Final Bid: $ 95,700.00
Russo & Steele Auction Scottsdale 2008
Consignment # 7603

A new generation Corvette was unveiled for 1963, with a new box-section chassis on a slightly shorter wheelbase and all independent suspension. The 327 V8 was carried over from the previous generation and came in several different engine configurations including the newly redesigned high performance fuel injection system by Rochester that produced a ground pounding 360hp. But the biggest news was the car's outrageous styling, which had clear influences from Chevrolets 1958 racing car and 1959 XP-720 concept car, both designed by Larry Shinoda under the direction of Bill Mitchell who had now taken over from Harley Earl as GM's design boss. The outlandish shape of the Stingray, still in fiberglass, as with the previous generations had boldly curved fenders with a hint of Jaguar E-type about them, concealed headlamps, and dummy air ducts in the front fenders. All of which came together to create the unmistakable look of the Mako Shark. Forty-five years later the legendary design of the 63 Stingray has been recognized by sports Car International as one of five on the list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s.

This 63 roadster was built on the first day of regular production. Serial #54 is a matching number 360 horse power, equipped with the potent Rochester ram jet fuel injection. The transmission is a numbers matching Borg Warner close ratio 4 speed and the final drive is a 4:11 possi. It still retains its original buzzer tachometer along with many other early 63 only options. It also comes equipped with a host of additional options including power windows, wonder bar radio and knock off wheels. It is finished in the correct original silver laquer with red interior to create a stunning look. It is the recipient of a full frame up concourse restoration with in the last 3-months by a local father / son team with over 80 combined years of early corvette experience.
