It would seem that 1939 was the high-point of Art Deco styling in the car world, with some very attractive models coming out of Detroit. Most popular from Chrysler was the Royal Windsor four-door sedan with a base price of $1,010. Production reached 45,955, which represented better than two-thirds of their entire production run. Powered by the "Gold Seal" Six, there was plenty of power at an economical price. The late Johnny Carson, host of The Tonight Show, used to love to tell the story how he learned to drive in a 1939 Royal Windsor sedan.
