One of the most fascinating production cars of the mid-50´s was the Chrysler 300 B Sports Coupe. This beautiful and super fast coupe was designed by Virgil Exner with engineering by Bob Roger, Chrysler´s chief engineer. In the 1955 model, it was powered by a 300 hp version of the Chrysler Hemi engine and was built on a 126-inch wheelbase chassis. During first year of production, the car won both NASCAR and AAA Stock Car racing championships and was also set a number of speed records at Daytona Beach.
The 1956 Chrysler 300 B had a new 340 hp version of the hemi and was the fastest and highest-powered production car made in America. The 300B continued Chrysler´s winning ways and set new records. The car made a 2-way run at an average speed of 139.9 mph in strictly stock form, breaking the world passenger car speed record at Daytona Beach.
