Receiving such an extensive facelift that one might mistake the 1968 Chrysler line as a complete redesign, sales were strong enough to keep this marque in America's top-10. Receiving a great deal of attention this year was the sporty 300 series, priced between the entry-level Newports and semi-luxurious New Yorkers. With a black-out grille that concealed its headlights to its long lines, these cars looked great while being powered by a big-block V8.
With an aim towards the personal luxury market, Chrysler targeted their 300 series with precision, aiming directly at models like the Ford Thunderbird and Buick Riviera, neither of which offered a convertible option in 1968. All three were priced within the same basic range with the sleek modern looking "300" convertible tagged $4,536, seeing a total of 2,161 produced that year.
