True hardtop styling came to the Imperial line this year in the form of the Newport coupe, and what an attractive package it was. Unlike some prestige cars of the day, Chrysler's top-line entry was very conservative in its use of chrome and over-the-top ornamentation, kind of the "less-is-more" school of thought. This is reported to be a turn-key-ready car that after a bit of detailing would be complete for participation in preservation type class judging. This year, full-time power steering was standard on all Imperials, as was the Fluid Matic Drive semi-automatic transmission.
