331 cid Hemi head in-line eight-cylinder engine rated at 180 horsepower, three-speed Fluid Drive transmission, four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes; wheelbase: 131.5"
One of the most exciting times of the year was when the new model cars were being delivered, and for 1951, Chrysler stole the show with its latest news, the birth of the "Hemi" V8 engine. With newly engineered hemispherical heads, plus the latest in style and visual appeal, this put the Imperial near the top of the luxury car market. Prices were up substantially jumping to $3,699 in base form, an increase of over $600 from 1950. That didn't stop the appeal to customers as production for this model nearly doubled to 21,711 units. In storage for a number of years, this Foam Green sedan shows just over 52,000 miles, which appears to be from new. With a solid body with no signs of accidents or major repairs, it is equipped with heater-defroster, clock, and radio, while shifting is accomplished through the Prestomatic Fluid Drive transmission. On our inspection we noted this car still retains its original headlights, which were unique to Chrysler Corporation vehicles. A diamond in the rough and ready for the restorer?s touch, this was everything a luxury car should be, vintage 1951
