Unfortunately due to legal reasons (U.S. firm Dodge already owned the model name!) the "Dart" was quickly renamed the Daimler SP250 and sold as this until its demise in 1964. The SP250 was one of first serious British attempts at using GRP for its external coachwork; this explained the cars curious styling! Compared to other contemporary British sports cars the SP250 looked quite outrageous with its tail fins and wide front grille. Power came from a powerful 2.5 liter V8 that gave the car a top speed of 120mph, the Police were quick to spot the cars potential for use as a high-speed traffic car and many saw service in this role. This car is left hand drive, equipped with a 2.5 L, V-8 Hemi, in Porsche Red exterior and Red interior. Equipped with 4 wheel disc brakes. This car is completely stock and very fast. This roadster is quite a nice Daimler in running condition. It needs work, but it is a solid car and is about 85% original. The front seats are clearly not from this model, and it needs a new top and a gas tank. A full restoration is possible. The body and frame are free of any significant rust. Brakes will need to be redone, but they do function. It will run and drive. Of course, presently the gas source is a small gas can in the engine compartment. It does not smoke, runs cool and has a new fan belt. It has been modified slightly with Chrysler spinners. It’s been lowered a few inches and the front seats are from another car. These things were done just to make the car drivable as a novelty. Now it needs someone with the proper knowledge and dedication to restore this Daimler DE 36 to its well-deserved original condition. All the gauges work, the interior lights work, but the exterior lights were disconnected at some point. We can only assume they will work when reconnected. The car has the original Cast iron trunk rack and the odometer shows 50,000 miles. This is, of course, unconfirmed. This car has the original title and documentation. All available for viewing.
