The Kaishinsa Company, established in April, 1911, presented its first prototype vehicle, the DAT in 1912. Series production of the third-generation design began in 1914. The name of the company went through several changes and in June 1934, the Nissan Motor Company was founded.

Cars built from 1931 to 1932 carried the brand name of Datson. This was changed to Datsun in 1932, the name which continued to be used until 1983. The Nissan brand was also used, beginning in 1937. Beginning in 1984, all vehicles carried the Nissan brand.

Datsun 240Z 1970 - 1973

Datsun's hot-selling Z-car has a large and fanatical following. The car was an immediate success when it was introduced in 1970 with automotive writers singing its praises for the conbination og style, performance and affordable price of $3,526. The original bodyshell would be continued through larger engins as the 260Z and the 280Z but the original 2.4 liter models are still the most popular with many. They are less affected by emissions and safety rules that came in 1974 in the U.S.
