1974 DeTomaso Pantera GTS America Coupe | 1974 DeTomaso Pantera GTS America Coupe 88,000.00 USD 1974 DeTomaso Pantera GTS America Coupe Auction Sale Price: $88,000 Barrett-Jackson Car Auction, Scottsdale, AZ, January, 2010, Lot Number: 1241.2 Only 138 Pantera GTS Americas were sold in the U.S. for 1974. With riveted fender flares, unique blacked out hood, deck lid and lower body panels, "Pantera GTS" script on the rockers, black moldings, bright finish exhaust pipes, GTS badges and a sport steering wheel, the GTS is very unique and has an aggressive, take-no-prisoners look. The Pantera GTS seen here is stunning in Silver Poly over black leather. It was delivered new to Mr. Dennis Kirkpatrick who kept it in Southern California until he passed away in 1997. The car had been in storage for many years, so in 1998 Mrs. Kirkpatrick commissioned Precision Pro-formance to fully restore the car in homage to her late husband. In the restoration, the car was stripped to bare metal and repainted and the engine and transaxle were completely rebuilt using the best of everything. Keith Black pistons, Pro-formance II cam, a Holley 600cfm carburetor and aluminum intake manifold, Euro spec GTS headers and mufflers and Centerforce clutch. Other notable upgrades included drilled brake rotors and a larger booster with cadmium plated lines, high capacity cooling system with twin electric fans and 17" Pantera East aluminum wheels that mimic the original Campagnolos and allow for modern ultra high performance tires to be fitted. Drop-dead looks, blistering performance and extreme rarity, this Pantera GTS America has it all. Arguably, one of the finest Panteras in existence. by Douglas |

The de Tomaso Pantera represents a unique partnership between an Italian coach builder and the Ford Motor Company.
Combining exotic Italian styling with a reliable, easy-to-service Ford engine, the Pantera was available at select Lincoln-Mercury dealers across the US. Early models suffered from overheating (a problem common with mid-engined cars) and other problems. However, the Panter was fast, beautiful, and relatively inexpensive at $10,000.
About 6,000 of these Italian-American supercars were sold in the United States from 1971 to 1974.
De Tomaso Automobili was founded by Alejandro De Tomaso in 1959 in Modena Italy to build racing cars. The cars used a chassis designed by De Tomaso with engines initially from OSCA and then later from Ford.
The company's first road car, the nid-engined Deauville, was introduced in 1963. The Mangusta prototype was first shown in 1966 at the Turin Motorshow. It was to be the fore-runner of De Tomaso's most successful car, the Pantera in 1970.
Other models produced by De Tomaso include the Vallelunga (1963), Deuville Coupe (1970), Longchamp (1972), and Guara (1993).
