1941 Desoto S8 Deluxe Businessman's Coupe
$5,775
228 cid L-head in-line six-cylinder engine rated at 100 horsepower, three-speed manual transmission, four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes; wheelbase: 121.5"
Originally designed for the business man on the road who needed room to store his wares, this coupe provided plenty of space for carrying goods, sample cases, or luggage for extended trips. Room for passengers was in short supply, fitting three at most on the wide and somewhat comfortable front seat. Raising the deck-lid, one is taken by the cavernous opening, and behind the passenger seat a panel opens so that items needed such as an overnight bag or an order could be quickly accessed from the trunk. With a list price of $945 it was about the least expensive model in the Desoto line-up with only 1,149 examples produced.
The Businessman's Coupe offered here appears to be a very solid car treated to a repaint possibly several decades ago, while the interior looks to be original and fairly well preserved. It is equipped with a number of accessories; these include grille-bumper guard, back-up light, a heater-defroster unit, plus after-market period turn-signals. Showing under 42,200 miles on the odometer, the condition of such items as the pedals and flooring, would lead one to believe these were from new. With few survivors today, this unique model provides distinctive styling and reliable ride into the past.
