1949 Dodge Wayfarer Roadster
$15,400
230 cid L-head in-line six-cylinder engine rated at 106 horsepower, three-speed manual transmission, four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes; wheelbase: 115.0"
When the new Dodge was released in April 1949, a body style not seen in the U.S. for over a decade returned with the Wayfarer roadster. Considered a more affordable open-top car than a standard convertible, it was well received with 5,420 examples sold in its premier year, more than double the production of Dodge's traditional convertibles. Being a true roadster meant no roll-up windows, so to protect the passengers glass panes framed in chrome could be slipped into mounting holes on the doors. While convertibles did have a longer life, the economical roadsters were often retired early making survivors a very rare find. This roadster has been treated to a complete frame-on restoration about ten years and ago and has been used very sparingly since. Showing under 71,600 miles, which may be from new, it is finished both inside and out in a rich dark red-maroon. The seats are upholstered in a matching maroon pleated vinyl covering with an off-white soft top that is reported to be in good mechanical condition. This is a rare opportunity to bid on one of the last full-sized American built roadsters.
