Ferrari FXX

The Ferrari FXX extreme supercar is being used in a unique program in which a selected few private owners will participate with Ferrari in research and developement of the next generation of high-performance Ferrari cars.
Program duration: 2005 to 2009
Limited production of 30 cars

Ferrari FXX Prototype Program

Ferrari originally built 29 FXX cars which were sold to preselected Ferrari owners who will participate in further testing and development. The purchase price of approximately $2,500,000 for each car gives the proud owner a car that they cannot drive on the street and is not homologated for racing. In fact, the FXX prototype is designed exclusively for track driving as part of a specific research program by Ferrari.

The purpose of the program is to allow Ferrari's top clients exclusive access to its most current technology and to use their input to help develop future models. The owners have the option of storing their cars at the Ferrari facilities where it will be maintained by the factory.

One additional FXX, number 30, was built for presentation to Michael Schumacher when he retired from Ferrari's Formula One racing at the end of 2006. Schumacher's FXX is the only black FXX and is also the only one with no stripe and has red trim on the wheels and matte exhaust tips. It also has the famous Michael Schumacher signature on the side, number 30 on the doors, and his personal insignia on the seats.

Ferrari's sister company, Maserati, has developed a similar car, the MC12 Corsa.

Ferrari FXX Evolution

In October 2007, Ferrari announced the extension of the FXX program to now last through 2009. To date, over 20,000 miles have been logged by the Client test drivers and Ferrari drivers.

As the unique FXX developement has proceeded, several improvements have been made on the cars to improve their handling and performance. The aerodynamics, running gear and electronics have all received modifications.

The V-12 engine now produces 860 horsepower at 9500 rpm. Gearshifting time has been reduced by over 25% to 60 ms. Gear ratios have been adapted to take advantage of the extra 1000 rpm now available from the Ferrari powerplant.

Ferrari FXX Description

The FXX is an evolution of the Enzo Ferrari but significant portions were developed for the FXX.

The Ferrari F140 engine, new with the Enzo, had its displacement increased from 5988 cc to 6,262 cc and the horsepower increased from 651 in the Enzo to 790 @ 8500 rpm.

The six-speed sequential semi-automatic gearbox has had shift times decreased to under 100 ms.

The FXX features a comprehensive data-monitoring and telemetry system to provides Ferrari technicians with valuable data to improve the FXX and future road-going Ferraris.
