L-head V8, four-speed manual transmission, four-wheel leaf springs with coil springs and four-wheel drum brakes. Wheelbase: 122" Ford trucks had their humble beginnings in 1905 with the Model C Delivery Car. It was a 10hp vehicle that featured a delivery top and sold for $1,000. Because of very poor sales the vehicle was discontinued and customers wanting a Ford truck had to have it built outside of normal production for the next seven years. In 1912, on the Model T chassis, the Delivery Car was reintroduced with the sales pitch, “The car that delivers the goods. Tougher than an army mule and cheaper than a team of horses.” In 1928 Ford produced its first panel truck based on the Model A. But it was not until 1938 that Ford started selling trucks in reasonable quantities as they introduced their first one ton pickup, with a 3/4 ton series added in 1939. However, in 1940 Ford struck a chord with their revised lineup of 3/4 ton trucks, considered by many to be the most attractive trucks of all time. The front end was similar to the Lincoln Zephyr that gave the new trucks an attractive streamlined look while remaining effective for their purpose. The panel version of the truck featured tongue and groove hardwood flooring, the spare wheel mounted between the passenger door and the rear fender on the right side of the truck. A rare and wonderful piece of Americana, this 1941 Ford nine passenger school bus was custom built from a 3/4 Ton Panel Truck by Novelty Carriage of Spokane, Washington. It was used in the Seattle area from 1941 until the mid 1960s. One of two known to have been built, this is the only one remaining. The bus received a cosmetic restoration a few years ago and was shown in many local car and truck shows in the State of Washington. The bus runs and drives quite well and would be perfect addition to any museum exhibit or to just own for fun as it would provide room for all. by Douglas |
