Monster Garage 1950 Ford Woody Surfmobile

Offered For Sale at the: Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction January, 2008, Scottsdale, Arizona Barrett-Jackson Auction Company 7400 E Monte Cristo Ave Scottsdale, AZ 85260 Phone: 480-421-6694 Facsimile: 480-421-6697 Website: www.barrett-jackson.com Monster Garage 1950 Ford Woody Surfmobile 28,000 LotNumber 430.1 It took six builders and live music from Dick Dale, The King of Surf Guitar himself, to complete the challenge of transforming a broken-down, rusted-out 1950 Ford Woody station wagon into the ultimate wave-chasing, 4-wheelin' off-road machine. Dealing with the Woody's rusted-out body and parts of the frame proved to be a major obstacle. The team swapped out the front end of a donor Ford Bronco and fit the transfer case and larger engine into the old Woody. Woody fabricator. Getting the engine timing and wiring correct also became nerve-racking toward the end of the build on the final day. We still can't get over the fact that Dick Dale performed during this build. Sorry, we just can't. THE DESIGNERS: Jesse James, custom-bike builder/designer, West Coast Choppers, Long Beach, CA, Doug Carr, Woody restorer/builder and owner, Wood N' Carr, Signal Hill, CA, Mike Desmond, graphic artist and custom-car designer, MAD Machines, Long Beach, CA, and David Snoddy, off-road vehicle fabricator and chief engineer/mechanic, Wide Open Baja, Chino, CA. 1950 Ford Custom 2-Door Sedan Street Rod

1950 Ford Custom 2-Door Sedan Street Rod
38,500.00 USD
1950 Ford Custom 2-Door Sedan Street Rod Auction Sale Price: $38,500 Barrett-Jackson Car Auction, Scottsdale, AZ, January, 2010, Lot Number: 688.1 A Ford "shoe box" does not get any cooler than this car. This 1950 Ford 2 door sedan exemplifies the 50's Hot Rod look. The laser-straight body is covered with beautiful black paint that is highlighted by chrome and stainless trim. The cool stance is achieved by aftermarket front suspension with dropped spindles and lowered springs in the back. This combination also gives the car a very comfortable and drivable ride. The wide whites mounted on steel wheels with spider centers give the ride a classic Hot Rod look. The 50's styling is carried over into the brilliant red interior. This amazing interior is highlighted by a tilt column with 1940 Ford style steering wheel, custom stereo and air conditioning. The car is motivated by a highly detailed 350cid Chevy with a Turbo 350 transmission. Modern features such as power steering, disc brakes, power brakes and 12-volt electrical system make the car both dependable and easy to drive. Words and pictures can not possibly do this car justice. This Goodguy Award winner has to be admired up close to really appreciate the quality and finish of this amazing car.

1950 Ford

The 1950 Fords received only minor, cosmetic changes from 1949. Some of these refinements include: recessed gas filler neck, new hood ornament, flat-top horn ring, three-bladed cooling fan, and push button door handles.

Ford offered their 1950 car in two trim levels. The base trim level cars carried the model name "Ford Deluxe" and had rubber window molding, a horn button, one sun visor, and an armrest only on the driver's door. The top trim level, called "Ford Custom Deluxe", included chrome window trim, chrome horn ring, two sun visors, armrests on all doors, passenger assist straps on the "B" pillars, and chrome strips along the lower half of the body.
