1968 Shelby Mustang GT350 H Fastback

1968 Shelby Mustang GT350 H Fastback
95,700.00 USD
1968 Shelby Mustang GT350 H Fastback Auction Sale Price: $95,700 Barrett-Jackson Car Auction, Scottsdale, AZ, January, 2010, Lot Number: 1011 For 1968, Shelby rekindled his relationship with Hertz Rent-a-Car to resurrect their "Rent-a-Racer" program with Shelby Mustangs as part of Hertz's Sports Car Club fleet. However, Hertz had wised up a bit since it ordered 999 cars in 1966, cutting 20 cities out of the program and scaling back marketing. As such, only 224 cars are known to be delivered according to the Shelby Registry, 223 according to Marti, and this time they ordered them in an array of colors. S/N 1262 seen here was one of 33 cars sent to San Francisco. After Hertz was finished with it, it went to an enthusiast in the Bay Area who owned it until 2005 when it then went to the most recent owner who commissioned a stunning, MCA concours-quality, rotisserie restoration on the very original car. It had no rust, so all of the original body panels were re-used and the car was repainted its rare factory original Candy Apple Red with all the correct side stripes, overspray and detailing. The matching numbers engine was rebuilt and is still mated to the original C4 automatic that all '68 Hertz cars had. It is also equipped with power disc brakes, power steering, upgraded Selectaire air conditioning, tilt top steering wheel, AM radio, fold down rear seat, shoulder harness and tinted glass. Included with the car is the original Build Sheet, Deluxe Marti Report, Shelby World Registry history and California Black Plate. The car has less than 50 test miles driven since completion and is arguably one of the finest Shelby GT350's in existence.

1968 Shelby Mustang GT 500 Convertible

1968 Shelby Mustang GT 500 Convertible
151,250.00 USD
1968 Shelby Mustang GT 500 Convertible RM Auctions Automobiles of Amelia Island Collector Car Auction Amelia Island, Florida March 13, 2010 AUCTION RESULTS: Lot 157 - Sold at a price of $151,250 355 bhp, 428 cu. in. V8 engine, C-6 three-speed automatic transmission, independent front suspension with unequal-length control arms, coil springs and anti-roll bar, live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, and front disc, rear drum hydraulic brakes. Wheelbase: 108" As the new 1967 Mustang body shell had been designed from the outset to accept Ford's 390 cubic inch big-block engine, Shelby dropped Ford's Interceptor 428 into the pony car's engine bay, creating the GT 500 in 1967. Conservatively rated at 355 horsepower, actual output was closer to 400 horsepower, accompanied by 420 ft-lbs of tire-scorching torque! Although this powerplant continued to power the GT 500 with modifications through 1970, stylists ensured that the Shelby GTs retained their unique identities. For 1968, the GT 500 was updated with an aggressive new front-end treatment including a lengthened hood line, while a neatly integrated rear spoiler was added, as well as revised head and tail lamps. Inside, a roll bar with inertia-reel shoulder belts was added, and for the first time, handsome convertible variants of both the GT 350 and the top-line GT 500 appeared. According to its accompanying Marti Report, this 1968 Shelby GT 500 Convertible is one of just 17 examples with an Acapulco Blue exterior finish and Ginger interior combination. It was built on January 23, 1968 and delivered to the original selling dealer, Healy Ford Center of Edmonton, Alberta, who sold the car to its original owner for $5,000. In addition to the powerful 428 V8 engine, it was equipped with a heavy-duty C-6 automatic transmission, power front disc brakes, power steering, a power-operated top and Shelby 10-spoke alloy wheels. Other desirable options included the upgraded cooling package, visibility group, wheel lip moldings, a tilt-away steering column, an AM radio and the interior décor group, plus a tachometer and a trip odometer. The O'Quinn Collection acquired the GT 500 in early 2007, and today, it remains a very fine restored example of the legendary Shelby GT 500. It is offered complete with a Deluxe Marti Report, high-quality color copies of the original build sheet and dealer invoice, as well as an original-appearing 1968 Ford Mustang owner's manual and a 1968 Shelby GT 350/GT 500 owner's manual.
