We are very proud to offer this incredibly rare 1968 Ford Mustang GT Convertible. Finished in very rare Presidential Blue over Deluxe Blue Decor interior, it is one of only 50 ever made in this combination! Moreover, the Deluxe Interior found its way into only 3,339 convertibles in 1968 compared to over 22,000 completed with the standard interior! Adding to this gorgeous vehicle is a very strong list of factory options which includes J-code 302ci V8-4V Premium Fuel engine, C4 automatic transmission, Selectaire air conditioning, GT Equipment Package, power disc brakes, power steering, power convertible top with glass backlite, white reflective C-stripe, tinted glass, AM/FM radio, and correct F70-14 white lettered nylon tires! Built new in San Jose, CA, it sold to it’s first owner from a "Ford Dealership" known as Philco Corp WDL (Western Development Laboratories) located in Palo Alto, CA. Philco was a space engineering firm that produced satellites in the 1960's which was actually owned by Ford Motor Company as their space systems division of Ford Aerospace! It's just one more very interesting tale of a very special car that probably went to an employee within the vast Ford empire! This car has seen only a complete restoration that included its first repaint from new, new interior upholstery, new convertible top & boot, exhaust, tires, rebuilt drive train and suspension! It has traveled only 500 miles since completion and is undoubtedly ready to show and drive! It comes complete with Marti report, original door tag, owner's manual, warranty booklet, radio instruction booklet, and driver safety tips brochure. 1968 Ford Torino GT Fastback | 1968 Ford Torino GT Fastback 11,275.00 USD Offered For Sale at the: Russo and Steele Collector Car Auction 2004, Monterey CA Russo and Steele 5230 S. 39th Street Phoenix, AZ. 85040 Phone: 602.252.2697 Website: www.russoandsteele.com Consignment # 5559 1968 Ford Torino GT Fastback Final Bid: $ 11,275.00 - Monterey 2004 An unrestored, all-original survivor, this car is prime example of American muscle in the late sixties. A perfect car for someone looking for an unmolested classic. The car is equipped with a 390 2 bbl. and C6 column-shift auto (just rebuilt with a heavy-duty converter). Interior is in amazing, all-original condition. The factory plastic from the rear seat-belts was never removed! All chrome is excellent save for the bumpers which could use a re-chroming. All glass is excellent. All trim is excellent. The original spare tire is still in place in the extremely clean trunk with original trunk mat. You can still see the factory paint daubs on the under side of the trunk lid! The original wheels with original GT center caps are wrapped around brand new “Diamond Back Classics” Redline radials for a period correct look. The original paint still shines, but has some flaws in the form of miscellaneous nicks and scratches, nothing major. The floors and frames are rust-free and solid. I purchased the car from the 3rd owner in 2002 with 69,000 original miles. I have used the car as daily transportation since and have tacked on another 16,000 miles. I have the original build sheet, owners cards (temporary and permanent) and various Ford literature that came with the car. I even have the business card of the salesman that sold the car to the original owner. The only non-original parts on the car are regular maintenance items and the center section from the rear end. I replaced it about a two months ago, but still have the rebuildable original that will go with the car. The car was recently shot for an upcoming issue of Hemming’s Muscle Machines that will feature it as a prime example of an unrestored driver. by Douglas |
