She is serial #1058. Well documented in the Shelby Registry. Impeccably finished in her original colors: unusual Sunlit Gold and (original) black interior. Driving #1058 is an experience like wearing a fine vintage gold chronograph. Attention-grabbing and ultimately satisfying for her owner. Equipped as specified by the Hertz Corporation featuring all the Shelby equipment (power disc brakes, power steering, competition handling package, shoulder harnesses, integrated roll bar, deluxe interior, unique console and gages, and tilt / tilt away steering column) plus selected options of an automatic transmission, air conditioning and tinted glass. Shelby 10-spoke alloy rims and an original 1968 Ford factory AM/FM stereo were added during her restoration. All original body panels and fiberglass retained. All Shelby unique parts restored/retained. The engine rebuilt during restoration is date code correct. This car is super solid, rust free, nut and built Concourse restoration. It has a super nice quality body, with show quality repaint. The paint job is a superb example, with a flawless, completely showable finish. This car is truly a NO Expense Spared restoration. The mileage is believed to be actual at 40,000. The underside of the car is detailed to MCA (Mustang Club of America) Concourse tailored status. This is one of the finest, and most detailed undercarriages you will ever find on any early Mustang/Shelby. This is a truly gorgeous car including when viewed from the underside. The undercarriage features all the original sheet metal from front to rear, rocker to rocker. The floors, inner/outer rockers, front/rear torque boxes, inner aprons, shock towers, wheelhouses, trunk pans, trunk drop-offs etc, are ALL ORIGINAL TO THE CAR. Even the front fenders, door skins, door shells, front and rear valances, are all-original to the car. The suspension/undercarriage componentry is absolutely brand new, from front to rear as well. The undercarriage is properly duplicated/painted, as Ford would have done it on the assembly line. The doors, hood, deck lid, convertible top, etc all shut and fit excellent. The original Shelby body tag is still in place on the LH apron, as is the body buck tag, and LH door tag, which is an exact reproduction made by Marti Autoworks, as the original was very weathered. All the trim, grille, post pieces, stainless trims emblems, etc are in EXCELLENT restored condition. The under hood is complete and has been detailed with every proper piece/component. Everything is in complete working order under the hood. All of the original Ford electrical harnesses. The interior is the trim tag correct Black Vinyl Deluxe interior. The interior was completely redone when the car was restored as well. The console, convertible top frame, proper Stewart-Warner gauges (correct with alternator, NOT Amps), etc are all original to the car. The wheels are brand new 10-spoke aluminum 15 inch Shelby American reproduction pieces. Mechanically speaking you couldn’t ask for a NEWER, BETTER, MORE SERVICED car. The engine has been completely rebuilt, with a stock style rebuild. The correct original engine zanies an 8F26 (May 26th, 1968) date, and the car was built 28F (June 28). The transmission is the correct RUG-AE big input/big output transmission, which has been rebuilt, and detailed to the correct standards. The rear end ratio is the correct 3.50 Traction lock unit. The brakes are new throughout, with new wheel cylinders, rebuilt original calipers, new brake hoses, completely new brake lines front to rear, master cylinder, shoes, pads, and hardware. The car runs, and drives out AWESOME. This vehicle is being offered to the person who is looking for something other than your “average” restoration. Keep in mind that you are only dealing with 1 of 318 GT-500 convertibles in the World! Very few of them are taken to the caliber of restoration you see in front of you. Car has a factory Build Sheet and a Carroll Shelby autograph on the glovebox. This car was last painted original Acapulco Blue color in 1978. The original police interceptor engine was replaced with a late dated '68 428 Cobra Jet that was built by a Ford Motorsports engineer who had access to developmental and Shelby Racing parts. This engine has been documented and balanced and blueprinted. Block, heads, rods and exhaust manifolds are CJ/SCJ components. Bored 20 over with TRW forged pistons and a comp solid lifter cam with an IUB crank all balanced with finest rings and bearings completing this professionally prepared engine. Holley double pumper carb, 4-speed transmission, 3:50 rear end and Goodyear tires on 10-spoke wheels. Frame-on restoration car and garage king. Don't let this car's good looks deceive you. Framed Marti Report. Car has been stored covered in a heated shop since frame-up restoration in 2001. Car was restored as close as possible to original, with the exception of the paint color. The paint is beautiful. The work was professionally done and includes receipts. Original options include extra cooling package, visibility group, wheel lip moldings, sport deck rear seat, power front disc brakes, tilt away steering column, AM radio with AM/FM radio installed as a dealer option, interior décor group, tachometer and trip odometer. The car was purchased in 1999 by the current owner with the complete original engine. The 428cid engine was rebuilt in 2000 with performance parts utilized at 86,206 miles. The engine has been balanced and blueprinted. The underhood engine area is detailed for show status. Paint and body work were completed professionally using a base coat white and clear coat system. The factory original color was Highland Green Metallic. The body was disassembled for painting. This was a frame-up restoration. The body was bead blasted and chemically treated to bare metal as required. Correct Lucas fog lights. The windshield is tinted and in very good condition.
