1910 saw an innovation in Franklin cooling and ignition systems. After four years of experimenting, a fly wheel which incorporated a new type fan was developed. New cylinder jackets directed the cool air moved by the fly wheel downward over the valves and tops of each cylinder. In another improvement, the spark advance lever was eliminated by the use of an automatic magneto governor.
