With Jaguar having achieved several major racing victories and finding sales success with the XK120, it was time to make a good thing better. By 1954, the world was ready for the new XK140. Reportedly, this designation was to indicate the car's ability to hit 140 miles per hour in stock form. Among the improvements over the XK120 were heavier, more effective bumpers, rack and pinion steering, larger brakes and hydraulic shock absorbers. The Jaguar XK 140 was the refinement of the six-year run of the XK 120. With the added exterior and engineering changes, the new Xk140 was areat hit with its customers. The car was also offered in an "XK140MC" version which included the C-type racing head and dual exhaust, increasing the horsepower to 210.
