Most notable of its many distinguishable styling elements are the unique doors that glide forward and almost disappear inside the front fenders. The innovative Kaiser-Darrin boasted several technical advancements when it first appeared on the American sports car market and those attributes are still very desirable in today's market. Features such as: a fiberglass body, a low center of gravity (the lowest of any vehicle at the time of its production and a good ground clearance with a wheelbase of 100"), give this special model a sporting and comfortable driving characteristic. Powered by the legendary and reliable 161cid Willy's 6-cylinder engine, the Kaiser-Darrin was styled by Santa Monica-based Howard 'Dutch' Darrin, who had also designed for Packard and Studebaker. Unusual for the time, the Kaiser-Darrin had a strong, but light fiberglass body, a three-position landau convertible top with intermediate half-up position, plus full instrumentation and a 3-speed floor shift transmission with available overdrive. In 1954, the model's only year of production, a mere 435 cars were built with a total weight of only 2175 lbs. Plus the super reliable 161cid Willy's 6-cylinder engine, the performance was satisfying and predictable. The Darrin was able to achieve 0-60 sprints in about 13 seconds and near-100mph flat out top end speeds all while delivering around 30mpg fuel economy. This particular Kaiser-Darrin is a 66,000 mile original California/Nevada car which spent time in a museum and on display in a Las Vegas casino before a sympathetic and thorough restoration began in 2006, in preparation for the Copperstate 1,000-mile vintage road rally, this Darrin was thoughtfully prepared and well sorted mechanically. It performed flawlessly on the open road and remains in top condition. It has both available options of a heater and an overdrive transmission. This car would be eagerly accepted for nearly every vintage road rally. Much effort, time and money was resourced to make this a mechanically sound and cosmetically correct example of one of the most glamorous 1950's iconic cars. Kaiser-Darrin serial number 1265 has appeared in several television segments over the last two years.

Kaisers' fairly large Kaiser-Frazer Auto Company and was designed by legendary custom coach builder, Howard A. "Dutch" Darrin. The first true American sports car with its prototype introduced even before that of the Corvette and T-Bird. Always a forward-thinker, Darrin recognized the benefits of fiberglass construction as well as incorporating his patented, sliding "pocket" doors and 3-position convertible top. Bodies supplied by Glasspar Boat Company, a pioneer in the use of fiberglass for specialized cars. This is body #208 of only 435 Kaiser-Darrins ever built during only one year of production. This is a total, professional, rotisserie restoration of an untouched and original, two owner car. Every nut, bolt and component removed and totally rebuilt and restored to like new condition. Features: 80hp, 161cid L-head 6-clinder Kaiser engine, 3-speed manual overdrive transmission, 3-position landau top, chrome wire wheels, wide white wall tires, heater, original Pine Tint color with matching interior and top and patented pocket doors. Truly unique styling with a front that "always looked like it wanted to give you a kiss!" A rare opportunity to own a fascinating piece of automotive history.
