With the popularity of the Chevrolet and the introduction of Ford's affordable V-8, it was clear that Plymouth would have to upgrade to a six-cylinder engine to stay competitive. In 1933 Plymouth introduced the model PC, their first six-cylinder car. Despite its modern styling, the PC was smaller that the previous year's four-cylinder cars of the line. Production of the new PC had hardly begun when it became obvious that Plymouth sales were dropping and a revised model was need quickly. The result was the very successful Plymouth Deluxe, which was actually a re-badged version of the 1932 DH series Dodge.
