The Silver Wraith I was the first Rolls-Royce to appear after World War II and was a completely new design. The F-head engine with the overhead inlet valves and exhaust valves underhead permitting the use of larger valves was also new.
The Silver Wraith continued the tradition of custom coachwork. Until World War II, Rolls-Royce produced only the chassis. All of the bodies were added by coachbuilders. After the War, the company's products were much more homogeneous with most bodies being built by Rolls-Royce. The Silver Wraith was the exception with a large variety of bodies being built. Many of the body designs were built in batches of between ten and fifty.
