This early number GT350 was delivered to Broadway Motors in Kansas City, MO on November 17, 1965. The car's detailed history is outlined in the 1997 edition of the Shelby American World Registry on page 498.
It as converted to "R" model specs by noted Shelby Racer James Overlin in the early 1980's. Jim raced the car with many group and overall wins in VSCCA, SVRA, HSR and RMVR throughout the 80's and 1990's.
In the 1990's the car earned coveted "medallion" status through the Sports Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) meaning it is grandfathered in to all of its races due to the car's significant racing history.
In 2002 the car was purchased by its current owner and was campaigned extensively in HSR and SVRA events across the country. During this period the car was maintained and managed by Cobra Automotive of Wallingford Connecticut, the country's foremost authority on racing Shelbys.
During the past 4 seasons the car has achieved many class wins and overall victories throughout the vintage racing circuits. Its achievements place the car in what is undeniably the category of top 5 fastest and winningest Shelby's in the nation right now. It's beautiful Red, White, and Blue paint scheme set it apart from the rest of the field and make it one of the most recognizable GT350's on any racetrack.
The car has been featured in several magazine articles and most recently a cover story in the September 2006 issue of "Classic Motorsports" in which it is described as "one of the best early Shelby's racing today".
While being an absolute brute on the track, the car's performance was developed while keeping an eye on authenticity. It still wears the front disc/rear drum brake setup, original sheet metal and body panels. The interior, while stripped of unnecessary weight still contains the original dash. The current owner firmly believes it should compete the way Shelbys were meant to compete in the 1960's. This philosophy has earned the car a place in the prestigious "Rolex Vintage Festival at Lime Rock" over the past 3 years…an event where only the best and most original racers are invited to compete.
This car comes with an extensive racing spares package, including another Cobra Automotive Hi-Performance motor (a $35,000 value), spare Jericho gearbox (0-hours since rebuild), a spare set of American Racing wheels, and much more.
The motor in the car, which is also a Cobra Automotive Hi-Performance motor, has zero racing hours on a fresh rebuild.
